Following the successful removal of the contaminated soil and sediments. Downing Reservoir was expanded from 4.5 acre feet of storage to its current size of 9 acre feet. This translates into approximately 12 million gallons of water that will be used for a wide variety of activities on the Denver Federal Center. To isolate the surface water from any potentially contaminated ground water a watertight synthetic liner was installed. Outlet structures were constructed in the reservoir and at McIntyre Creek to manage the water. A ground water capture system and treatment plant were constructed to intercept and treat contaminated ground water that has historically been held in place by an iron filings wall. An automated evaporative loss system which utilizes a previously dormant well located on DFC property was installed to comply with federal regulations. Following the installation of the infrastructure the area was covered in top soil and seeded to control erosion and attract native pollinators. Anders Environmental provide construction management, electrical system installation, Archeological consultation, HDPE liner oversight technicians, and a host of other services to facilitate the successful completion of the project.
